Anti-Harassment Policy

Report an incident using this link

1. Purpose

CALDAC is committed to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment free from harassment and discrimination, while acknowledging the inherent physical proximity that comes with dance. Harassment of any form — sexual, verbal, physical, or identity-based — will not be tolerated. Appropriate, fair action will be taken in response to all reports.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all participants, employees, contractors, volunteers, performers, instructors, guests, and vendors involved in CALDAC events.

It covers behavior that occurs:

  • On-site at CALDAC events

  • During official off-site activities related to CALDAC

  • In virtual communications and online spaces associated with CALDAC

3. Recognition of Dance Proximity

We recognize that social dancing involves close physical contact and proximity. Mistakes may occur, and not all physical interactions are intended as harassment.

However:

  • All individuals have the right to feel safe and comfortable.

  • Respectful boundaries and clear communication are essential at all times.

  • We strive for fairness by listening to all perspectives, but every report is taken seriously and addressed with care and impartiality.

4. Definition of Harassment

Harassment includes any unwelcome or discriminatory behavior that undermines safety or dignity. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Sexual Harassment

    • Unwanted touching, groping, or prolonged physical contact

    • Sexual jokes, comments, or suggestive gestures

    • Displaying or sharing explicit images or materials

    • Making sexual advances or propositions

    • Repeatedly violating personal boundaries after discomfort is expressed

  • Identity-Based Harassment

    • Misgendering, deadnaming, or disregarding pronouns

    • Homophobic, transphobic, racist, xenophobic, or ableist remarks

    • Outing someone’s identity, sexuality, or relationships without consent

    • Mocking, ridiculing, or excluding based on skill, appearance, background, or identity

  • Other Prohibited Behavior

    • Persistent or coercive attention

    • Recording or photographing individuals without consent

    • Discriminatory, threatening, or harassing speech, materials, or actions

Drug or alcohol use does not excuse misconduct. Accountability is based on impact, not intent.

5. Reporting Procedures

If you experience or witness harassment:

  • Speak directly with a CALDAC staff member

  • Submit a report using our Reporting Form (You can choose to be anonymous)

  • Call Latina Safe House: 720-4412916

Reports will be handled confidentially, respectfully, and fairly. Retaliation against those who report or participate in an investigation will not be tolerated.

6. Investigation Process

Upon receiving a report, CALDAC will:

  1. Listen carefully and respectfully to all parties involved.

  2. Conduct a thorough, impartial investigation considering statements, evidence, and witness accounts.

  3. Prioritize the safety, dignity, and privacy of those who come forward.

  4. Document findings and determine appropriate next steps.

The goal is fairness, balanced judgment, and community protection.

7. Disciplinary Actions

If harassment is confirmed, CALDAC may take actions such as:

  • Verbal or written warning

  • Removal from the event

  • Temporary or permanent bans from future events

  • Termination of employment, contract, or volunteer role

  • Referral to law enforcement if necessary

Safety Team Review:
The CALDAC Safety Team considers all relevant information when making decisions, including:

  • Prior reports and documented patterns of behavior

  • Legal judgments, restraining orders, or other court-issued protections

  • Any history of violence, harassment, or misconduct inside or outside CALDAC spaces

CALDAC reserves the right to deny entry or participation if credible safety concerns arise.

8. Prevention and Education

CALDAC is committed to preventing harassment and promoting respect by:

  • Training & Resources: Providing training and resources on respectful interaction, boundaries, and consent in dance settings.

  • Clear Expectations: Sharing behavioral expectations before and during events, including through announcements, orientations, and online platforms.

  • Visible Reminders: Posting safety and anti-harassment posters throughout venues and showing a rolling video on Code of Conduct, safety, and anti-harassment at our events, so expectations are visible and accessible to everyone.

These measures help reinforce CALDAC’s values and make sure everyone knows how to contribute to a safe, respectful, and joyful community.

9. Collective Responsibility

This policy belongs to the entire community. Every dancer, DJ, instructor, vendor, and volunteer plays a role in keeping our spaces safe. If you see behavior that contradicts this policy, please report it immediately. Together, we create the culture of safety we want to see.

10. Conclusion

While dance involves physical proximity, every individual deserves to feel safe, respected, and included. CALDAC is committed to addressing all reports of harassment fairly, with special attention to the unique nature of our dance community.

By attending CALDAC events, you help protect the joy, dignity, and heart of our community.
