CALDAC AND BIG Festivals are proud to introduce the Smoothest Dancer Social Dance Competition—a fun, interactive social dance experience taking place during the CALDAC Convention.

This isn’t your traditional dance competition, and it’s not a Jack & Jill. Instead, it’s a celebration of what social dancing is truly about: connection, musicality, confidence, and creating an unforgettable dance for your partner.

Contestants may register to compete in Salsa, Bachata, or both. During the competition, participants will dance socially with our featured artists and instructors, who will rate each dance based on the overall social dance experience. Rather than rewarding flashy tricks or complicated patterns, the judges will be looking for dancers who are smooth, musical, connected, and genuinely enjoyable to dance with.

The competition will take place Saturday from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM during the CALDAC Convention.

There will be one Salsa Champion and one Bachata Champion. The contestant with the highest overall score in each division will be crowned the winner.

Each champion will choose one of the following prize options:

- A Full Pass to any BIG event + Full Pass to  CALDAC 2026 Convention

- $300 cash

The winners will be announced during the Sunday Night Shows, where they’ll be recognized as the 2026 Smoothest Dancer Champions.
